Lunar Squad Logos

Space-themed logos for internal representation

Brief

  • As a fast-growing business Lunar requested a set of logos for their newly founded Squads.

  • Six logos in the same art style and sharing a space theme as Lunar’s Squads were named after NASA missions.

  • Responsible for all aspects, with the exception of setting the original design guidelines for Squad logos at Lunar.

Task

Six newly founded Squads (specialized teams) at Lunar were in need of visual representation. I was asked to design logos in the style of existing Squad logos. As the Squads were named for NASA missions, I was asked to incorporate elements of the missions in the design. The logos were to be offered in both image and vector formats and optimized for print to be used for laptop stickers, as well as for internal documentation.

Solution

I designed each logo from the same template using a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. A round shape with a colored border (representing different physical locations) and wrapped text. Notable examples of integrating the NASA mission identity in the design are: The Squad Themis logo includes northern lights dancing over the poles and the three satellites used to observe this phenomenon known as Substorms. The Cassini spacecraft appears on the logo of Huygens as Cassini carried the Huygens probe to space, in a single mission known as Cassini-Huygens. And the original NASA mission logo appearing in the background of the Squad Pheonix logo.
