tech.lunar.app

A technology insights hub and blog universe at Lunar

Brief

  • Lunar - a scaling FinTech business wished to offer insights into its unique approach to technology, ways of working, and company culture.

  • I built a full CMS system using Squarespace, including a blog universe, an archive of all public tasks, and a list of their technology stack.

  • Responsible for website design and proposal, UX, writing and researching blog posts, migrating data, and internal promotion.

Challenge

Lunar is a FinTech operation in the Nordics with now over 500,000 users. In order to attract new talent and prove their claims to the world, they wanted to offer insights into their technology stack and ways of working. A prior attempt at this had been made in 2017, with the site later abandoned without regular updates. I was asked to design a new site called tech.lunar.app, easily accessible for non-developers to update and write for, and encompassing old blog posts. Likewise, the site would include an archive of all public talks by Lunar going back to 2017.

Approach

When I was hired for the task, I first authored a project proposal with my vision for the site. This document was shared with the CTO, Head of Tech, and the developers responsible for the old site. We settled on using Squarespace as a CMS system, and once approved I began building the site. I collaborated with the team responsible for Lunar’s main public site to ensure consistency and UX. Once the site was live, I began writing blog posts to kick off the project. Blog posts were formed by researching topics of interest and interviewing tech leaders at the company.

Solution

The site is hosted at the domain tech.lunar.app. Any .app Lunar site is public-facing, meaning this can be used both as an internal resource for spreading the word about exciting new projects and technologies as well as for sharing knowledge with the community and interested parties. When visiting the site you will be met by the latest blog post. You can also browse through the full archive or select a specific category of a topic of interest. The talks tab includes a full list of all public talks by Lunar going back to 2017, with the slide deck attached for viewing/download and a link to a recording, if this exists. Under the ‘tech stack’ tab, all technologies used at Lunar is highlighted with a short description, including all Open-Source projects.

Responsibility

I was responsible for more or less all aspects of this project, with the exception of moving the site to a public domain and marketing. For blog posts, I entered a role akin to that of a ghost-writer, writing blog posts on the behalf of experts. My understanding of technology and the industry was essential in this process as it allowed me to work autonomously outside a few talks with relevant leads. A few collaborators were added to the site later, in order to tighten descriptions of specific elements in the tech stack as well as for writing future blog posts. Writing and editing blog posts should be easy for anyone, as part of the design. after kicking off the project with its few first blog posts I handed over the responsibility to Lunar itself - hopefully, it is well taken care of.
